The instructions below are for setting up a Noteflight Learn site with LTI integration. If you are not integrating via LTI, then please use the setup instructions for either Standalone or Google Classroom Integration.
If you are trying to integrate Blackboard with Noteflight Learn via LTI 1.3, please contact support@noteflight.com to help with integration. Noteflight Support for Blackboard LTI 1.0/1.1 integration is not needed.
Feel free to watch this short video on how to set up your Noteflight Learn site with LTI integration, or read the step-by-step instructions below!
LTI Site Setup Instructions
1. Log into Noteflight then select the Noteflight logo in the upper left to extend the left panel and select "+ New Site".
You can also use this direct link: https://www.noteflight.com/site/admin#/newSite
2. Select "Set Up LTI Integration for Another LMS" to begin creating your Noteflight Learn site with LTI integration.
3. Choose the title of your Noteflight Learn site and supply a description and optional image. This creates a brand new site with its own URL ending in ".learning.noteflight.com". If your site web address does not include ".learning.noteflight.com", please contact support before proceeding.
4. You will be asked to enter the login URL for your LMS, which is just the URL you already use to access your LMS, where teachers and students normally log in.
If you'd like the capability to share a score with everyone, including people outside of the site, select the “make this site public" button. This will allow others to view a score if they have that exact score URL. This is useful for students to share a link to a score with their parents.
Each LMS has its own interface for integrating an LTI tool, but many call the process “adding an external tool."
Please first check if your LMS supports LTI 1.3 (recommended) or LTI 1.1 and contact your school LMS administrator for assistance. We can provide additional support if needed.
For LTI 1.1 integration you can find your Consumer Key and Shared Secret from the "Need an older LTI setup" link shown in the above screenshot.

Adding Student and Teacher Accounts via Single Sign-On
Accounts are created for students and teachers on your Noteflight Learn site by having them log into your LMS first and then open a Noteflight external tool assignment posted there. Once they access the Noteflight assignment, their Noteflight Learn account is created automatically for them based on their role and credentials in your LMS.
After their Noteflight Learn account is created, teachers and students (including yourself) should exclusively access those accounts by logging into the LMS first and accessing a Noteflight external tool assignment from there.
We suggest setting up a “Create With Noteflight” assignment in your course that is available all year. This allows students to be able to access Noteflight at any time to create music.
Creating Assignments
The details of creating an assignment vary depending on your LMS, but generally, it will start with “create assignment”. In the assignment dialog, choose “add an external tool” (this may be called something different, depending on the LMS). You are taken to your Noteflight Learn account where you can create or find the score that serves as the basis for the assignment. Make sure to save it as an Activity Template.
Once you are viewing your Noteflight score and it is completely ready as you want students to see it, click the “Attach To This Page” button to link the Noteflight score to the LMS assignment.
When the student opens the assignment, they will see the “Turn In This Score” button.
Once the student has completed the assignment and clicked the “Turn In This Score” button, their submission appears in the LMS gradebook. You can open and review all of the score submissions from within the LMS gradebook and can add comments using the LMS grade book tools.
