    What axolotl01 said. Perhaps (also?) with double vertical bars (as in modern practice) or the old rectangular version.

    Yes. There is much 'early' music that is best written retaining the full breve. Modern notation practice is to retain the longer note values of 16th and 17th century music. Putting in two semibreves joined with a tie can too easily distract from where the real pulse (tactus) is.

    Supporting this motion – it's so much better to have the double whole note as an option rather than being forced to halve note values.

    Bumping this request. Those of us who teach at the college level or otherwise work with early music would really appreciate having a double whole note instead of having to halve note values or tie two whole notes together. Thanks!

    For sheet music readability, two whole notes tied together need to be merged into a breve. Unfortunately, Noteflight does not support breves, so you should tie two whole notes together.
