Adjustment of spacing needed for measure numbers above score

I use the measure-numbers-above-the-staff feature for all my prints ("show bar numbers above every measure"), but there doesn't appear to be a feature allowing me to adjust the placement of those measure numbers in relation to the staff -- no manual adjustment allowed.  And the consequence is that frequently with ledger-line notes used above and below the staff, the measure numbers and the ledger-line notes sometimes blur into one another - making it difficult to identify both notes and/or measure numbers at times.  I see there is a feature to change the font-size of the measure numbers, but no feature to adjust the distance the measure numbers appear in relation to the staff upon which the measure number sits.  Would be helpful to have ability to adjust placement of measure numbers in the same way text placement can be adjusted. 

And, along the same topic, it would also be helpful to have the option of placing measure numbers below the staff in addition to above the staff.
