Parentheses around multiple notes in a measure

I'm writing a lead sheet and am looking to make the notes in the last measure an optional pickup to a return to the beginning. I'd like to put parentheses around the GROUP of notes, but even with the whole measure selected, the parentheses appear around each note individually. Does anyone know a way around that?

  Why not use the text palette to type your own parentheses and drag them onto the staff?

  That's better than nothing, but I don't see how to enlarge those parentheses (to more clearly enclose a group of notes) without enlarging all text.

  If you happen to not be using one of the text types, e.g. Lyrics, Performance Text, Expression Text, Chord Symbol, or Text Block, you can designate that type to be your parentheses so you can adjust the size to fit your needs.

  You'll probably have to create separate units of whatever type you use for each parenthesis so you can space them how you want.
