Viewing Student Copies in Collections

When I put homework exercises into a collection, the student copies do not show up there: there is no number next to the puzzle piece and clicking on it just takes me to the shared template. Could this be fixed so that we can organize student homework assignments into collections and still be able to view student work? Thanks!
